OFFICIAL RECORD BY ESQUELETO EXPEDITIONS SD
Welcome to the official record of summits conquered. This is a curated log of the high points that define the Southern California and Baja borderlands. From the granite slabs of the Cleveland National Forest to the cross-country cactus-dodging of the Anza-Borrego, these are the peaks that require sweat equity.
THE ESQUELETO STANDARD
We don’t log drive-ups or roadside overlooks. To be etched into this log, a summit must meet the Barebones criteria:
OFFICIAL STATUS: A named peak recognized by the USGS or a documented benchmark.
PROMINENCE: A minimum of 300' of topographic prominence—distinct summits only.
THE GRIND: A minimum of 1,000' vertical gain per outing.
FAIR MEANS: Human-powered ascents only. No motors, no shortcuts.
THE LOG CATEGORIES
Our expeditions are categorized by the level of technical skill and physical endurance required:
THE CLASSICS: Established trails. High mileage, high reward. (e.g., El Cajon Mtn, Mt. Woodson)
THE TECHNICALS: Steep terrain and scrambling where the trail gets thin. (e.g., Corte Madera)
THE CROSS-COUNTRY (XC): No trails, no cairns—just a compass and your gut.
"The bones don't lie. If you didn't earn the view, you didn't reach the peak."
